The Pastores Ensemble was founded by Robert Carrington and Paul Neville in 1991. Since that time, it has had various changes of line-up. The present Ensemble has performed together since 2005 and was recently joined by their guest soprano Amy Cunningham. Their repertoire ranges from the 12th to 21st centuries with new works by members of the Ensemble: Marion Pilbeam and Robert Carrington. They have performed in various British venues, and also in Brittany. They have collaborated with Brighton Consort, the Powys Society, the Fretful Federation of Mandolins and also members of Mervyn Peake’s family. The Ensemble have also been involved with Radio Broadcasts- including Indonesian Radio.

The In Nomine pieces are based on the “Gloria Tibi Trinitas” Mass by John Taverner. The notes of the plainsong are re-arranged and played simultaneously by the instruments with the added “new” element being the recorded plane sounds for In Nomine no.10. The inspiration for In Nomine no.9 was “The Bells of St Leonards”: a poem by Portslade poet Alfred de Kantzow.

  • Marion Pilbeam’s “Fantasia on a bass by Leonora Duarte” was inspired by the gentle quality of Duarte’s 5-part Sinfonia and features an added wordless vocal part for soprano Amy Cunningham
